Reading Buddies

This April has been a wonderful time to celebrate reading across our school community, both inside and outside of the school.

Our PTA-sponsored Book Fair was a tremendous success and a true highlight for our students. Thanks to the PTA’s generosity, the fair remained a Buy One, Get One Free event, allowing students to bring home twice as many books to enjoy. From our PreK learners to our 6th graders, students had the opportunity to browse, select, and purchase books with the support of our dedicated staff and PTA volunteers. It was inspiring to see the excitement on students’ faces as they discovered new stories, favorite characters, and topics that spark their curiosity. Opportunities like this not only build home libraries, but also reinforce the joy and importance of reading in our daily lives.

In addition to the Book Fair, many of our classrooms have been taking advantage of April’s beautiful weather by bringing reading outdoors. A special highlight has been our “Book Buddies” activities, where students from different grade levels come together to read side by side. These moments are powerful: our younger students eagerly share their developing skills, proudly reading aloud and building confidence, while our older students model strong reading habits, fluency, and expression. The connections formed during these sessions go beyond literacy—they foster mentorship, leadership, and a shared love of learning.

Together, these experiences reflect our continued commitment to nurturing lifelong readers. Whether through the excitement of selecting a new book or the joy of reading with a buddy, our students are growing every day as readers and learners.
