Roosevelt Hasn't Missed a Beat
Roosevelt School

After a full week of successful hybrid instruction, we are pleased to share the success of our staff and students at Roosevelt School.  Student entrances and exits were monitored by adults.  Classrooms, bathrooms, hallways, and stairways, are screened and sanitized properly.  And through it all, students who are present (in school or virtually) are learning at the same time.

When your children come to the building, each grade level has a specific doorway to enter.  Our teachers were all provided thermometers from the PTA.  Thanks to this effort, no child enters the building without a temperature check.  It is also noted that every staff member must scan their forehead before walking the halls of Roosevelt School as well.  Students are then directed to the propper stairwell which leads them to their homeroom.  I am very impressed with how quickly a building full of elementary students can navigate a building and prepare for instruction.  Our students have adapted to this setting and the staff is taking our population’s health very seriously.

I can proudly say that Roosevelt School is one of Bergen County’s cleanest buildings.  Technically, there is no documentation to prove this.  However, my statement is based on observations I make on a daily basis.  Our custodial staff continues to impress me.  The commonly touched surfaces are sanitized multiple times a day.  This includes light switches, door knobs, handrails, and bathroom fixtures.  In a team effort, the Roosevelt community also wipes down desks, chairs, and other surfaces.  At the end of this cleaning process, floors are mopped and then rooms and hallways are fogged for a final level of sanitation before people enter the building the following day.

While the entry procedures and cleaning guidelines are securely in place, I am most impressed with how well our teaching staff continues to educate the children of Ridgefield Park.  It is an impressive balancing act to witness from inside the school when you see the teachers and aides engaging with our hybrid students and those who are learning remotely from home at the same time.  This is an experience that is not an easy task and I believe educators across the globe who are doing this should be commended for their efforts.  The Roosevelt staff continues to go above and beyond the traditional expectations for their students.  Most impressively, they are extending their arms to help out former and other students too.  Roosevelt School is truly a team of committed professionals who strive to help every member of the community reach their fullest potential.  The pandemic has not and will not take that away from the spirit of what Roosevelt School stands for.
